Hmm, is this design even possible?

Wouldn't be more ergonomic to make a passenger area under the wings? Like 2nd class or something?

The design proposal comes from Japan's Tohoku University, btw.

Possible? Sure I guess. It looks draggy as hell though

This design represents a mathematical configuration that would (theoretically) cancel out sonic booms for SST transport, I couldn't care less where they stick the passengers if if means more commercial supersonic flight.

Yes you would, unless you're rich enough to have your own jet, you are a passenger.

Seems like a lot of extra weight for no apparent gain.

They aren't going to [aren't allowed to] put me in harms way and I frankly don't care if I get a window or if the isles look goofy. Nope, still aint care.

With modern flight computers, I imagine a brick would fly. Just look at the F-117. The thing about fantastic designs like this is that they will likely never get built. And it's not because they won't fly. They'll just revert to the tube with wings because nobody will want to redesign every airport in the world to accommodate wild designs like this. The concept sure is groovy, though.

Why would the location of the passenger compartment matter for ergonomics?

Competition leads to evolution, airport owners will turn them upside down, just to stay in business, once Musk's Hyperloop will put pressure on their profits.

I never thought of having to change airports to accommodate new airliner designs. That makes a lot of sense, but is really depressing that your likely right.
